Summer Game Fest 2024: What to Expect and Exciting Predictions!

The highly anticipated Summer Game Fest 2024 is just around the corner, set to kick off on June 7. Gaming enthusiasts can look forward to many major game announcements as leading developers have confirmed their participation. The event’s schedule promises an exciting lineup of presentations from industry giants, including Ubisoft, PlayStation, Xbox, and many other renowned names in the gaming industry.

It can be challenging sometimes to anticipate the surprises waiting for us at the Summer Game Fest. As passionate gamers, we all hold our own dreams and expectations of the games we hope to see. Drawing from the unpredictable nature of previous showcases, the realm of possibilities for predictions is vast. Nevertheless, by diving into the latest news, articles and insights from gaming developers, we can paint a picture of what the lineup might encompass and the likelihood of certain games gracing the stage.

I have compiled a comprehensive guide that outlines the anticipated announcements and showcases from major publishers participating in the event. Additionally, we will look at the chances for some of the highly anticipated games and whether they will appear at the Summer Game Fest 2024.

Activision

Activision has officially announced that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will take centre stage at the Summer Game Fest, with a unique showcase at the Xbox Games event on June 9th. We can expect its global debut in a dedicated game show. Co-developed by Treyarch and Raven Software, Black Ops 6 marks the 21st game in the Call of Duty series and the 7th main entry in the Black Ops titles. Fans can look forward to its launch in late 2024, with the bonus of being available to Xbox Game Pass subscribers on the day of its release.

We can also expect Microsoft to detail other Activision games it plans to bring to Game Pass during the Xbox Games Showcase.

Amazon Games

Amazon Games is currently working on several untitled game projects. These include an untitled story-driven RPG and an untitled The Lord of the Rings MMORPG, both developed in-house. Additionally, Amazon Games has five other projects in development in partnership with Glowmade, Disruptive Games, Maverick Games, Crystal Dynamics, and NCsoft.

I am really looking forward to hearing more about the upcoming untitled Tomb Raider game that Crystal Dynamics is working on, even if it’s too early for a trailer or release date. Any information about the game would be greatly appreciated. Additionally, I can see a focus on NCsoft’s MMORPG ‘Throne and Liberty’, especially considering that Amazon Games is assisting with publishing the game outside of Korea.

Annapurna Games

Annapurna Games has several game projects currently in development. The lineup includes Bounty Star, Flock, Ghost Bike, The Lost Wild, Forever Ago, We Kill Monsters, Skin Deep, and more. We can expect some gameplay reveals from these games.

As an avid fan of the Blade Runner franchise, I’m eagerly anticipating more details about the upcoming Blade Runner 2033: Labyrinth, Annapurna Games’ first in-house game. Additionally, I’d like to learn more about Silent Hill: Townfall game being developed by No Code and Konami.

Atlus

I am eagerly anticipating Atlus’s focus on their highly anticipated RPG “Metaphor: ReFantazio,” which is being developed by Studio Zero. Scheduled for release on October 11, 2024, this game marks the studio’s first original project since its inception in 2016 under the leadership of Katsura Hashino, the director of the Persona series. Personally, I am excited to see more of the game’s rich medieval fantasy world and interesting characters. With Hashino in attendance, it is sure to be exciting.

Atlus may also showcase gameplay for Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance. The enhanced Shin Megami Tensei V version is expected to be released on June 14th, 2024. This enhanced version allows players to play through the game in two routes. The second route drastically changes the second half of the game, featuring new characters and different endings.

Another game that Atlus may focus on, with the current online rumours circulating, could be Persona 6. This may be wishful thinking, but any news on the latest instalment of the Persona series will be a surprising welcome.

Bandai Namco Entertainment

We expect updates on Elden Ring’s expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, which will be released on June 21, 2024. With only a few weeks left, we can anticipate seeing some gameplay before its release.

It will be interesting to see if we will receive more news on the upcoming story-driven game Unknown 9: Awakening, scheduled for release later this year. Additionally, we eagerly await updates on the status of the next game in the Dark Pictures Anthology series, Directive 8020, a horror game set in space.

Bethesda Softworks

Bethesda has huge potential for some surprising reveals, ranging from Marvel’s Blade, Elder Scrolls 6, Wolfenstein III, and Fallout 5. However, wishful thinking aside, I can see the spotlight being on the upcoming Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and the Shattered Space expansion for Starfield.

On a side note, seeing if they unveil any other Bethesda titles following Hi-Rush’s jump to other platforms will be interesting.

Blumhouse Games

Blumhouse Games is a new subsidiary of the film company Blumhouse, known for producing major horror titles such as Insidious, Halloween, The Purge, and Paranormal Activity, among others. Blumhouse Games will collaborate with independent game developers to create original horror-themed games for various platforms. Seeing what Blumhouse Games has in store for us will be intriguing.

Bokeh Game Studio

With Bokeh Game Studio confirmed to be in attendance, we can anticipate an exciting gameplay reveal of Slitterhead. This highly anticipated title is from the renowned creator of Silent Hill, Keiichiro Toyama, and was initially announced in 2021. Interestingly, last Thursday’s State of Play event gave us some exciting news about the Silent Hill 2 remake. The announcement revealed that the game is set to be released on October 8, 2024.

Capcom

Speaking of horror games, rumours are circulating about the development of not only Resident Evil 9 but also remakes of other Resident Evil titles like Resident Evil Zero and Resident Evil Code Veronica. Personally, I am very excited about the possibility of these remakes, especially Code Veronica, which is one of my all-time favourites. While they may be unlikely to materialize, I hope for some Resident Evil news.

After the recent State of Play event, they unveiled Monster Hunter Wilds. We expect to receive more news about this upcoming game, slated for release in 2025. Additionally, The Monster Hunter Stories Collection will be released on June 14th 2024, so we anticipate receiving more details about the games.

We can also hope that we receive some updates on Pragmata, a game first revealed in 2020. Despite Capcom’s commitment to a 2023 release window, we wish to see more information on its status.

Deep Silver

Deep Silver has already announced that more news and updates are coming for Dead Island 2. The latest story expansion, SOLA Festival, was released on April 22, 2024. It will be interesting to see what updates and news they have for us. Hopefully, it will include new expansions and the highly requested New Game + feature.

We can also expect more news on Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, which is expected to be released at the end of 2024. Additionally, we may receive news on Beyond Contact, a sci-fi survival game developed by Playcorp Studios. The game is currently in early access for PC via Steam.

Electronic Arts

I’m looking forward to seeing what EA will bring to Summer Game Fest now that they have confirmed their attendance. I have hope for long-awaited updates on a few of my favourite franchises, such as Bioware’s Mass Effect 5, Maxis’ The Sims 5, and Bioware’s Dragon Age: Dreadwolf.

Other potential appearances may be Skate 4, Bit Reactor’s Star Wars strategy game, and DICE’s Battlefield Beyond 2042. It may be too early to show, but Respawn’s Star Wars: Jedi Survivor Sequel, the untitled Iron Man game, or Cliffhanger’s Games’ Black Panther game may have a slight chance to appear. We’ll have to wait and see what they have in store.

Epic Games

Epic Games has officially announced its participation in the Summer Game Fest. This means we can anticipate a wealth of exciting Fortnite reveals, ranging from live events to upcoming collaborations. Personally, I am particularly eager to learn more about Alan Wake 2 and its Night Springs expansion, which will be the first DLC of two planned expansions.

Focus Entertainment

Interestingly enough, I’m currently playing Focus Entertainment’s latest game, Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden, and I love the world they built and the complex characters. I highly recommend it. As for upcoming releases, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 will surely make an appearance with some gameplay updates, especially considering its already revealed release date of September 9th, 2024. We may also receive some updates on the John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando game currently in development.

PlayStation

Last week, Firewalk Studios unveiled their highly anticipated game, Concord, at PlayStation’s latest State of Play. Concord is an exciting new sci-fi IP designed exclusively for PlayStation, featuring intense five-versus-five multiplayer shooter action. Fans can expect more details about this game.

In addition to Concord, PlayStation also revealed a diverse range of thrilling titles at the showcase. These included Dynasty Warriors Origins, an action-packed historical RPG, the expansive open-world RPG Infinity Nikki, and Where Winds Meet, a fantasy action RPG developed by Everstone Games. Furthermore, we got the first look at Ballad of Antara, a new free-to-play action RPG, as well as the remakes of Until Dawn, a horror adventure, and Silent Hill 2, the classic psychological horror.

And if that wasn’t enough, we also looked at Path of Exile 2, a free-to-play action RPG, and Team Asobi’s next project, the charming platformer Astrobot 2. We can expect more news and updates on all these games that were announced last week.

We also expect to see updates on the upcoming Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, and hopefully, they will shed some light on the rumours about Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 DLC or the recently leaked details on Lego Horizon Adventures. In addition, with some hopeful speculation, we might expect to receive more updates about the highly-anticipated Marvel’s Wolverine game and to new game announcements.

Private Division

What we can expect from Private Division is more details about the Middle-Earth game “Tales of the Shire” developed by Weta Workshop. This charming life simulation game lets players create their own hobbits and build a life among the inhabitants of The Shire.

We can expect to receive updates on Moon Studios’ “No Rest for the Wicked,” an action role-playing game that was released in early access on April 18, 2024, with plans for a full version release. Additionally, we may gain insight into an unannounced action-adventure game by Game Freak and “Eternal Strands” by developers Yellow Brick Games.

Ubisoft

Ubisoft is hosting its own press conference at the Summer Game Fest with Ubisoft Forward, scheduled to air on Monday, June 10. We should expect to see the first gameplay of Assassin’s Creed Shadows and more insight into the game. I also hope we will get a glimpse at Assassin’s Creed Infinity, the interactive nexus tying upcoming Assassin’s Creed games, including Assassin’s Creed Jade, set during the Qin Dynasty China by developers Level Infinite. Perhaps we will also look at Assassin’s Creed Hexe, supposedly set during the 16th-century witch hunts, which will take the Assassin’s Creed franchise in a new direction.

Before its release on August 30, 2024, we can confidently anticipate that we will be treated to additional gameplay and news for Star Wars Outlaws. The developers of Massive Entertainment have stated that it takes place during the period of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi and is the first fully open-world Star Wars game.

We may receive updates on upcoming Ubisoft games such as The Division 3, Splinter Cell Remake, Beyond Good & Evil 2, and Project U.

Warner Bros Games

WB Games has confirmed its participation in the Summer Game Fest. We know the new VR experience, Batman: Arkham Shadows by developers Camoflaj, is set to be released in late 2024, so hopefully, we will get some gameplay reveals.

Regarding their most recent releases, such as Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and MultiVersus, we can anticipate upcoming DLC news for both games. Additionally, we may receive some news about the Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions game and Monolith Productions’ Wonder Woman game.

Xbox

Besides Activision and Bethesda, Xbox has many game projects it could announce. The potential game reveals that could be shown at the Xbox Games Showcase on June 9 include 33 Immortals, Replaced, Everwild, Contraband, South of Midnight, The Outer Worlds 2, OD, Routine, and more.

The games more likely to be shown with actual release dates are Dungeons of Hinterberg, set for July 18, 2024, and Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl, set for September 5, 2024. Other games with a 2024 release window include Awoved, Ara: History Untold, Dead Static Drive, Towerborne, Sopa, and Ark 2.

We also hope for updates or news on games like Fable 4, Perfect Dark, and State of Decay 3.

2K

2K has announced that the Summer Game Fest will feature a reveal of one of their most beloved franchises. Many speculate that we might finally get a reveal for Bioshock 4 or a new Mafia game from developer Hangar 13.

Personally, I’m hoping for news on the next Bioshock game, as it’s been quite some time since we got any updates and over 11 years since a Bioshock game was released. However, there’s also a possibility that we could get some news on the Borderlands franchise or new game announcements.

There is speculation online that Rockstar will release a GTA 6 trailer, possibly as a surprise, during the Summer Game Fest. This speculation is based on the fact that GTA 6 publisher 2K will be in attendance. However, despite a Fall 2025 release window, I don’t expect it to appear at this year’s Summer Game Fest. But as we all know, anything can happen.

Where’s Square Enix?

I know you may be thinking, “Doesn’t Square Enix have FF14’s latest expansion, Dawntrail, on the way, Dragon Quest 12, and Kingdom Hearts 4 in development? Why wouldn’t Square Enix make an appearance?”

I, too, can’t help but feel disappointed after learning that Square Enix won’t be making an appearance at this year’s Summer Game Fest. This news is particularly disheartening as I eagerly anticipated updates on Kingdom Hearts 4, and others would want to see more on their upcoming releases, such as FF14’s expansion Dawntrail or news on their other games in development, like Dragon Quest 12. Nevertheless, I remain hopeful that we will receive updates on their games in development and upcoming projects at least by the end of 2024.

Nintendo’s June Showcase

Nintendo has confirmed that it will not participate in the Summer Game Fest. Instead, the company has revealed its plans to hold a standalone Nintendo Direct event sometime this month. They have explicitly stated that this showcase will not cover any information about their next console. Instead, the focus will be unveiling new game releases expected for the latter half of 2024. Gamers can expect some details about Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD as that game is being released on the 27th of June, 2024.

Konami’s Silent Hill Transmission

Konami has yet to confirm their attendance at Summer Game Fest, and I don’t expect them to appear. This is due to the recent Silent Hill Transmission showcase, which included gameplay for the Silent Hill 2 remake and a release date of 8th October 2024, announced during the State of Play event on the same day. In addition, a preview of the upcoming film adaptation based on the same game, titled “Return to Silent Hill,” was shown. The original Silent Hill director, Christophe Gans, is returning to lead the project.

Due to the showcase, we will unlikely see any news or gameplay for the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake this summer. Unfortunately, the Silent Hill Transmission also didn’t provide information on other Silent Hill projects, such as Silent Hill F or Silent Hill Townfall. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see when these games will be shown.
